yellow watch - snow squall - in effect

发布日期:2026-01-24T14:42+00:00

Conditions are expected to become favourable for the development of snow squalls.Locations: southwestern Newfoundland.Total snowfall: potentially 10 cm in snow squalls.Maximum wind gusts: 80 km/h.Time span: this afternoon until this evening.Remarks: A cold west to northwesterly flow of Arctic air will likely lead to the development of snow squalls. Strong winds and cold temperatures will combine with the squalls to cause poor visibility in blowing snow.Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow and blowing snow within just a few kilometres are common.###Travel may be hazardous. Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.Snow squall watches are issued when localized, intense snowfall causing rapid accumulation and/or reduced visibility is possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.For more information about the alerting program, please visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/environment/weather/severeweather/weather-alerts/colour-coded-alerts.
