* WHAT...Kilauea is erupting lava fountains within the summit caldera. Fountaining episodes typically last less than 12 hours but ash can remain in the air longer depending on wind and weather conditions. Winds will generally variable through 22,000 ft in elevation today, causing tephra fallout to vary in location, ranging from north of Kilauea through the southwest. * WHERE...Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and areas to the north through southwest. * WHEN...Until noon HST today. * IMPACTS...The public will be affected by a limited hazard extent. Varying levels of tephra, including ash, Peles hair and other lightweight pumice may fall downwind of the eruption. These small particles are eye and respiratory irritants, but will have low level impacts for most people.
